Dr. Lizette Lara is a bilingual psychiatrist who brings compassion, expertise, and cultural understanding to her work with adults and individuals involved in the legal system. She is dedicated to helping people improve their mental health while also providing clear, thoughtful guidance in situations where psychiatry and the law intersect.
In her clinical practice, Dr. Lara cares for adults experiencing conditions such as anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and schizoaffective disorder. Her approach is patient-centered and evidence-based, focusing on each person’s unique story and needs.
In her forensic practice, Dr. Lara provides evaluations that help courts and legal professionals better understand an individual’s mental health. These include competency to stand trial, guardianship, fitness for duty, risk assessment, sentencing mitigation, and insanity evaluations.
Dr. Lara earned her medical degree from Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara in Mexico and completed her psychiatry residency and forensic psychiatry fellowship at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso, Texas. Her training has equipped her to bridge the worlds of clinical care and legal processes, offering a unique perspective that benefits both her patients and the broader community.
